Where To Start

I'm middle aged and seriously considering buying a horse, but a combination of not knowing much of what it takes to maintain a horse and respect for their size and power makes me hesitant. How do I choose the right horse; should I buy an older animal who's been trained or younger, and how do I get it trained?

Any help in answering these questions would be greatly appreciated.

Choosing the right horse

Choosing the right horse

Hi, this is Lori Forge of Daystar Farms. I love helping people who do the research first. They usually end up having way more fun with horses because they come closer to the target of purchasing the animal suited to their needs. And first take riding lessons with a qualified instructor who can give you the skills to be safe, and then have them help you find a horse that matches your skill level. Older is almost always better and if you’re middle aged get it already trained so you can have fun now. Would you board it or keep it at home?
